Assist International in Senegal:

Assist International traveled to Senegal, West Africa to install two structures to hold Polytanks. These tanks hold a three day supply of filtered water for the hospital in case the municipal supply is shut off, as is often the case.

Our dedicated partner, GE, graciously donated the equipment, and we want to thank them for their continued support in our work. Your donations helped pave the way for these tanks as well, and we we couldn't do it without you.

The risk of disease is very high for the people of Senegal. Many are affected by malaria, hepatitis A, dengue fever and typhoid fever, among others. The risk of HIV/AIDS, however, is relatively low compared with other Sub-Saharan African nations.

NOTES ON SENEGAL:
Senegal was ruled by a Socialist Party for 40 years until current President Abdoulaye WADE was elected in 2000. He was reelected in February 2007, but complaints of fraud led opposition parties to boycott June 2007 legislative polls. Senegal has a long history of participating in international peacekeeping. They remain one of the most stable democracies in Africa.
